Hello! I’m Dr Ahmed Elghamaz

Consultant Cardiologist

I became a cardiologist because I love it, and I love what I do every day, it’s as simple as that.

I have a passion for cardiology. It’s a very fast-evolving speciality, but despite the rapid development in the treatments of heart disease, it remains a challenge as it is still one of the leading causes of premature mortality. I have a vision that in the near future, we will be targeting prevention rather than treatment of coronary artery disease.

My interest in cardiology started from very young and is the reason why I studied medicine. Yet, it still grows on me, the more I learn, and the more I understand about heart disease and how I can make a difference in my patients’ lives. It’s fascinating. A huge amount of joy comes from the gratitude we receive from our patients and the amazing feeling we get when we make a difference to someone’s life. To me, this is priceless.

I naturally develop a rapport with all my patients by listening and addressing all their fears and concerns. I try to involve my patients in the decision-making process for all aspects of their management so they understand all the options available to them and we make a mutual decision on how best to proceed with any investigations or treatments. This enables my patients to understand the nature of the disease and empower them to make any necessary changes that could have an impact on the development of the disease and their future wellbeing.

I specialise in all aspects of general cardiology, stress imaging and complex coronary intervention.

More information about me

FRCP, MB BCh

I am a Consultant Cardiologist at Many Beats. I am also a consultant Cardiologist at Northwick Park Hospital and London North West Healthcare University Hospitals NHS Trust and an Honorary Consultant Cardiologist at Royal Brompton & Harefield NHS Foundation Trust.

I specialise in all aspects of cardiology and routinely see patients with chest pain, hypertension, palpitations, breathlessness and dizziness.

I have sub-speciality in stress echocardiography and in coronary intervention, in particular, complex coronary disease and the treatment of chronic total occlusions.

Besides coronary intervention, I have expertise in the treatment of rhythm disturbance, coronary and valvular heart disease.

I have a strong interest in alternative medicine and the potential reversal of heart disease through dietary and lifestyle changes such as prolonged fasting and other measures that have a real impact on the development or delaying of onset heart disease.

I qualified in 1996 and completed my junior training in Brighton and my speciality training in North West London.

I am the head of Interventional Research at Northwick Park Hospital. I have developed novel, patented technologies to enable a better and easier assessment of fractional flow reserve and the significance of a narrowing inside the arteries of the heart.

I am currently the lead for several important multi-national research trials that will help us understand in more detail how best to treat heart disease.

I have many publications and abstracts in peer journals and am a regular speaker and expert panellist in major national and international conferences.

It’s the wonderful words of our patients that make this job so worthwhile

Dr Elghamaz was professional and compassionate in equal measure. He made me feel completely at ease and explained in detail exactly my situation answering all questions kindly and in a language I understood – not medical jargon. A complete gentleman under whose care I have every confidence.

I called Dr Chahal’s secretary to get advice and an appointment for a stress echocardiogram as quickly as possible. Dr Chahal called me himself, to explain the procedure, and he managed to fit me in quickly, as I requested. On the day, he and his colleague carried out the test quickly, efficiently and kindly, explaining what they were doing and why. I would certainly recommend them as true healthcare professionals.

Dr Elghamaz was very efficient, thorough and personable and made me feel at ease through through the process of undergoing several tests and then discussing results with myself and my husband to ensure we understood everything and were comfortable.

L. S.

Highly recommended. Professional, honest, put me at ease. Wonderful experience all around.

Dr Sehmi is a fusion of the best of the old and new schools of medicine. Whilst reassuringly up to date with the latest evidence-based practice and comfortable with all the leading-edge technology of his field, he has always listened to my fears and given informed answers to all my questions.

I had a really positive experience when I saw Dr Navin Chandra in his clinic. He took time to really listen to my problems and then explained what was wrong in simple terms. I had all my tests performed swiftly and have started to feel much better!

P.B.

Having been referred for specialist Cardiology review, I was very fortunate to be assigned Dr Sehmi as my Consultant. From the outset, his level of interest in my personal case has been exceptional. I have had several consultants for a variety of reasons over the years but Dr Sehmi is the first where a consultant has proactively followed up in between appointments to determine progress.

N. T.

I was admitted under Cardiology and Dr Chandra was my Consultant. He quickly got to the heart of the problem and he and his team didn’t miss a step. Later that evening Dr Chandra took the time to see my partner and his patience and knowledge gave us the answers to our many questions.
