Hello! I’m Dr Navtej Chahal

Consultant Cardiologist

It is the multifaceted nature of cardiology that first attracted me to it as a career – from preventative cardiology right through to acute emergency cardiology.

Cardiology is a fast-paced, evolving speciality which is frequently challenging our old held beliefs about what might be good or bad for us. As somebody interested in research, I find this very exciting. As an example, not that long ago we would use stents to treat coronary artery disease; however, through research, we have found that medications or lifestyle measures can be just as effective.

It is very important to me that I develop a rapport with my patients. This enables me to establish how empowered they wish to be in managing their care and tailoring my advice and treatment plan accordingly.

I like to reach decisions on a mutual basis and explain to the patient the advantages and disadvantages of either approach — for example, having a test or procedure on the heart versus pursuing conservative, or medical therapy.

I have a strong academic interest in matters such as preventative cardiology and also in lifestyle medicine for treating and preventing heart disease.
